Discover the Best National Parks, Wetlands, Gardens and Nature Preserves in Florida
Florida is home to some of the most unique and surprising wildlife in the country. Alligators, birds, reptiles, mammals, and insects coexist with humans in ways that can be fascinating, frustrating, or just plain strange. National Parks, wetlands, nature preserves, and other natural spaces provide habitats for these creatures and reveal the complexity of the ecosystems that shape life in down south.
The most well known national park in Florida is Everglades National Park. This enormous subtropical wilderness is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a must visit for its unique “River of Grass” ecosystem. It has abundant wildlife, including alligators and the Florida panther.
Some other must see places we love in South Florida are Green Cay Wetlands and Nature Center in Palm Beach and Butterfly World in Coconut Creek. Moving up the coast, you’ll find unique places like Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park and Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge where you can rent clear kayaks and cruise through waters full of manatees. There is no shortage of places to explore, or things to see, up and down the sunshine state.
