The Vibe is What Makes Pondhawk Natural Area Unique
Pondhawk feels like a pair of parks in one: a manicured lakeside promenade (great for families, runners, and dog walkers) that flips a footbridge into a quieter, sandy Florida scrub and restored wetland with plants, shrubs, a storywalk for kids and a small observation deck. The contrast between the open, reflective Blue Lake and the scrubby, sun baked interior is what gives Pondhawk a “secret oasis” charm. Expect pockets of open grasses, scrub palms (sabal/minor palms), and a low canopy that smells faintly of pine and salt on breezy days. There are path markers to help you stay on track, and benches to sit for a water break when needed.
If you love nature walks and being in the fresh Florida air, make sure to visit the Green Cay Wetlands next. It is one of our favorite spots in Palm Beach to escape the hustle and bustle.

Spotting Wildlife at Pondhawk
Pondhawk Natural Area is home to hundreds of plants and animal species. Visitors to Pondhawk Natural Area in Boca Raton often spot wildlife such as iguanas, gopher tortoises, ducks, herons, woodstorks, anhingas, and American white ibis. The restored wetland area also attracts wading birds, butterflies, and dragonflies, making the park a popular location for birdwatching and nature photography.
On our last visit in March 2026, we saw otters in the lake, a pack of iguanas looking for shade (plus a large one basking at the top of a tree), a pair of American white Ibis, Anhingas in the water popping their heads up like snakes, and we even saw a nesting Florida softshell turtle. The turtle was kicking sand behind her, and after a minute or two on the internet, we discovered she was nesting, so we quickly left her to nest in peace.
Remember, DO NOT feed the animals!
